About Irondale, Alabama
Irondale, Alabama is located right next to Birmingham, a larger city that has gathered much more fame over the years. Irondale contains only nine square miles of land and has under ten thousand residents. It was established in 1887 by only twenty-nine people who wanted it to become its own town. Irondale has had a rich history as a community and continues to cling to the small-town basis upon which it started, citing a tight-knit community of people and businesses as one of the best things about the town.
There are a few things to see if you are traveling to Irondale. The book "Fried Green Tomatoes" was written about the town and its inhabitants by the writer Frannie Flagg, who grew up there. The cafe that features in both the book and the movie that was made based on the book is really called the Irondale Cafe, and you can stop in to see the world as Flagg wrote about it. Another local landmark is the headquarters for the Eternal World Television Network, a Catholic station.
